I have thought of David's example of living out "let the little children come to me" so often since moving from Rising Brook Baptist aged 11, the fact was he never made me feel like a little child but a valued and full member of a loving church family. Whenever people talk of intergenerational church I think of David Young and his conversation and care for me on a level with him, never looking down at me for being a child and never patronising nor lumping me in with the rest of a large family. His witness has stayed with me of God's complete welcome to all and I share it and think about it often, his ministry "at the door" is still an amazing inspiration.

I loved David's presence on the door at Rising Brook Church. His warm and firm handshake, his arm on the shoulder. The fact that he always said my name. He was a wonderful, kind and loving man. I shall miss him so much as will the whole church. Ken.

The doors of our church, when they reopen, will never be the same again. David will be greatly missed as that all-embracing, welcoming presence - always on duty. It didn’t matter whether he knew you well or you were a complete stranger, rich or poor, confident or timid, the warmth of his welcome always shone through. You will be greatly missed, David, and it was an honour to work alongside you.
